A perfectly planned dinner party slides delightfully off the rails in Teresa Präauer's cleverly droll novel Cooking in the Wrong Century. Late guests, many flutes of Crémant, a quiche that may or may not end up in the oven, and the ideal selection of moody jazz pair perfectly with the mildly acerbic repartee and Präauer's strategically placed exclamation points. Come for the mouthwatering descriptions of food, stay for the biting social commentary. Readers who appreciated the world Vincenzo Latronico built in Perfection will find much to admire here. Cheers!
